SAYING A BRIEF HELLO!

Just checking in for a minute - gotta go get dressed to see my niece in Romeo and Juliet.  she's neither of them.  i'm in Dallas, got here Weds night - drove like the wind, made it in time for dinner the second day.  and yesterday i slept until noon, something i haven't done since college.  i couldn't believe it.  but i didn't sleep on the road, except for a few hours in the car at a rest stop in TN.  so i'm safe and sound, and hot as hell, and having way too much fun.  thanks for all the good wishes, i'll be back with a real entry as soon as i can.  Those of  you who live in TN - do you think it's a scary place?  just wondering.  more about this later.

Glad you're doing well and having a ball.  I've never been to Tennessee and can't say if it's scary or not, but it does give D. the heebies, he doesn't like going there.

For the most part, Tennessee isn't scary, but you've got to be careful, just like anywhere else -- sleeping at a rest stop is a brave thing, in my opinion.  There are some seriously scary drivers, though.  If you need a pit stop within reasonable distance of either Memphis or Nashville on your way back, maybe we could meet for a cup of coffee or something. : )

Driving like the wind, especially at our ages when fatigue can catch up much more quickly than we realize, is really not a good idea.  Slow down, enjoy the sights, add an extra day on your return.  While some places are friendlier than others, I confess I've never been totally comfortable in the South -- especially the rural South.  I've seldom encountered rudenss there -- and NEVER open hostility -- but I always sense a certain suspision from the locals.  Unless you're white, conservative, heterosexual and Christian, it's probably a good idea to keep your defenses up in large parts of rural America, including parts of Kansas and Missouri -- a stone's throw from where I live.

Tennessee?  Not scary at all.  Just my opinion.
I would do my sleeping at a well-lit, busy rest area though, as opposed to a dark, isolated one.

I do not know how safe Tennessee is, sorry.  I was born in Memphis, and we left when I was three.  I had a very good friend whose family was from the Cowan and Winchester area.  She now lives in Maryland and hopes to move back to Tennessee when she gets the courage to lose her husband of 20 years.  I always thought Tennessee was beautiful, especially around Swanee and Chattanooga, but one thing has never left my mind, I hate when I watch those shows, is when I saw a show that a 16 or 17 year old girl (I believe in the late 70’s or 80’s) was traveling with her mother and/or brother and the car broke down (they lived around there somewhere) and when the mother and/or brother went to go and call for help the girl did not want to go because it was raining and it would mess up her hair.  Well when they got back, she was gone, never to be heard of again.  That is just scary, poor child.  I think it was on a show where they were asking a psychic to locate her.  Anyway, the accents in Tennessee or like no others.  Man it is a strong twang.  Winder for window, and pillar for pillow.  LOL!  Drive safe.

It could be because I have lived here my entire life, or not. I don't think it is scary at all. I'm sorry if something spooked you.
