SMALL CREATURES, ONE AND ALL

Okay, how's this for cute?

It's Vixen, in all her perfect catness, sitting on the kitchen desk - which has become her dining spot.  Molly eats in the downstairs bathroom, up on the counter, and Honey of course eats on the floor.

My sister came out from D.C. on Thursday, as her daughter had the day off from school and only a half-day on Friday.  I had only my morning classes at the college, no afterschool program - so we had time for fun and frolic.  Not much frolicking on Friday, as it was a day of pouring rain, but Saturday we all spent outdoors at one thing or another.

With this child and a kitten around, who could stay gloomy?  She and her mom are lights in my life - it was a shining weekend, election or no election, rain or no rain.  We ate, drew, read, talked endlessly, worked in the yard, played with the beasts, slept long nights under down comforters.

Here are three darling creatures on the couch - I'm surprised by how big Vixen looks in this picture.  Though Melissa was amused by Vixen, she remains loyal and true to Molly, whom she has loved with a passion since she first met her.  We had kinda sorta hoped Melissa and Vixen would fall in love with each other and Vix would go home with the girls.  But, no, a kitten's wildness is not what Melissa wants in a cat.  She likes the steady personality and rotund dependability of our old girl - whom we could never let move to Washington.  No, Molly will remain with us, as the queen of the house. As you can tell from the photo on the couch, she is beginning to accept the reality of the kitten.  Reluctantly.

I'll be back during the week, to read and post.  Renewed, refreshed, though still bewildered and somewhat lost.  And now there already begins a push to get Arnold elected.  Am I through the looking glass, or down the rabbit hole?  Is this a bad trip?  a bad dream?  Who is writing this script, anyway?

OMG - that kitten is the cutest little peanut.  If we didn't have a house full of cat allergies...I'd come down there and get her this minute.

Down the rabbit hole...yeah...that's it!!  I'd like to say it's going to be a long strange trip...but I'm afraid it's going to be more of a nailbiting roller coaster ride.

The cats are precious, but not quite as much as Melissa, who could be first cousin to my granddaughter, Amber.  Of course us proud grannies think all of our grandkids are the "pick of the litter".

Spent the day with one of my two "right" children today.  I can't believe the jibberish that spews from their mouths, from their defense of the war in Iraq to the issue of "morals".  Being the rabble rouser that I am I point out that the states with the highest divorce rates are also "red" states, so how can "marriage" mean so much to them.  Also wondered why it was immoral to terminate an early stage pregnancy but okay to send fully grown men and women off to get killed in an unnecessary war.  Fortunately we were still on speaking terms when I left, but we definitely had to change the subject.  Peace.  Paulette

Vixen's multi-colored coat looks as though it's streaked with peanut butter and Miss Molly looks plump and regal.  What joy they must bring to your household.

During these surreal political times I am reminded of that apt definition of Democracy:  Democracy is a system where the masses get the government they deserve -- and get it hard!  While I know many of us don't "deserve" this fiasco, it seems to be what the masses want.  Let's see: C. Rice to head State; Arnie would be great at the U.N.; Jeb to be next president followed in 12 years by the twins.  America can thus blunder along for decades, protected by our two great defensive barriers -- the Atlantic and the Pacific.  Down the rabbit hole indeed.

They are all adorable.  Melissa has those smiling eyes that just makes me want to give her a warm hug.  Vixen looks as kittenish as her name implies and Molly looks like the grand dame that she is.  Thanks fo sharing the lovely pictures.  I hope your weekend was even more relaxing and happily satisfying than it sounded.

All cute, kids and kittens. I'm not sure who's writing this script, but I've always said there are way too many drugs in Hollywood. Peace and Love.

Glad that you are surrounding yourself with cuteness to bring you back to good cheer. It's stuff like children and kittens that can give you hope for the future. It represents new birth and a spirit of renewal. :-) ---Robbie
