"LIVE WITH IT OR CALL YOURSELF SOMETHING ELSE"

A jaw-dropping  story from the AOL news screen that illuminates a little bit of why I no longer consider myself a Catholic.  Or even, really, a Christian.

Priest Denies Communion to Supporters of Gay Catholics.

I saw this story early today as well and experienced first a feeling off rage and then one of extreme sadness.  Will the quest to make us all in the image of the Christian Right never cease?   Whether "Christian" or not, I believe that if Jesus were alive today he'd be more than a little disquieted by the hate and intolerance that is perpetuated in his name.  Paulette

yes, I saw this. We actually met the nun who helped to start this movement on a plane coming back from California. We saw her at the airport and her crucifix had a rainbow beaded chain........ she ended up being our seatmate and told us that she was flying east to appear in court after being arrested at one of these things. We told her our love story. She was an extraordinary light. I too saw this quote on aol and was repulsed.

I've learned words like CHURCH and CHRISTIANITY are bogus because the phenomenon these words represent is far too diverse, far too nebulous to be contained in either case by just one noun.  If by "Roman Catholic Church" you mean the Vatican with its current proto-fascist administration, then, yes, I must join you in your outrage and disdain.  If by "Christianity" you mean the right-wing, sexist, homophobic amalgam of foolish folklore and social biases that gets bandied about by populist politicians and charlatan preachers, priests, bishops and popes, then, yes, I share your disgust.   But things are a bit more complicated than that.  The initial ban on this particular protest was really a ban on using the MASS as a venue for protesting.  I can see the logic to it.  The protesters could wear their sashes on the Church steps and hand out leaflets before and after the MASS, but upon entering the Church and joining in the MASS the demonstration must stop.  This week I meet with area Gay and Lesbain Catholics to talk about our protests.  I'll keep you informed.

The same Church that protected men who abused children expresses its scorn for gays and for those whose compassion exceeds their inhibition.  This same Church that interceded in 2004 to support the warmonger and torturer-in-chief by denying Communion to Kerry and to anyone who voted for him.

The Church is a mound of festering scum.

And the chief dung beetle in Rome is just the man to ensure that the stench will fill our nostrils for years to come.

I am disgusted at what has become of what used to be my Church.  What a shame!

"I tell thee, churlish priest, /a minist'ring angel shall my sister be/When thou liest howling." --Laertes, in Hamlet, V:1

I hope that there is really a lake of fire, so that priest can work on his backstroke...forever.

Having a homosexual orientation is not a sin, but practicing homosexual sex is a mortal sin.  Any sex outside of marriage is a mortal sin.  The Church teaches us this.  Every Catholic who is in mortal sin must go to confession before he/she receives communion.  Following God is sometimes hard but it gets you into Heaven, praise God! -Krissy

Oh, and supporters of practicing gays would be denied communion also according to the Church, because they can't support a scandel, which the Church would be doing, by serving communion to a group that was openly wearing sashes in support of gay sex. -Krissy
