Cheney does come across as a real bully.  I can't stand to listen to him.

Last night I was telephone banking to get volunteers for election work.  We finished in time to watch the debate, but by then I was pretty much tired of "politics" and decided to read about it this morning rather than get twisted up in the excitement of the exchange.  Everyone I trust that I've talked with -- and I exclude the stalwarts of either party in this group -- seems to think it was an even exchange.  One undecided voter said she thought both men did good jobs which, in this case at least, pushed her towards the Kerry/Edwards ticket because Kerry did the much better job in the first debate.  Translation: Kerry was ahead going into last night and Cheney couldn't make up the difference.  The big surprise in all of this is how much the debates are effecting this race.  People are actually tuning in and watching; people are actually discussing.  Who would have thought it?  The embers of my guarded optimism continue to glow...
